Five Unique Things to Do in Nashville
Nashville, Tennessee is an exciting place to visit, and its popularity has only grown in recent years. It’s perhaps best known for its association with country music, but there’s so much more that the city has to offer. Nashville has a unique history, an incredible selection of restaurants and cafes, and exciting activities – and the city itself is a beautiful place to explore.
If you’re planning a trip to Nashville and are looking for some unique activities, here are five of our favorites:
Nashville Murals
Nashville, Tennessee is a city known for music and art, and that includes street art! The city is home to a selection of interesting murals in a variety of styles that are done by local artists. They’re available to see in nearly every neighborhood – you can even see one at the Nashville International Airport. These murals are beautiful and dynamic, and best of all, they’re free to see! You can stop and admire a mural when you stumble across one that you like, or you can spend an afternoon trying to see as many as you can.
Hatch Show Print
The Hatch Show Print is Nashville’s oldest print shop – it was first established in1879. A print shop might not sound exciting, but this one is. This legendary letterpress has made posters for every kind of event you can imagine, but they’ve specialized in country music and are responsible for creating some designs for iconic artists such as BB King, Patsy Cline, or Kacey Musgraves. You can stop by to learn about their process, see a gallery of original posters, or browse their gift shops. The Hatch Show Print is a must for any fans of design or music.
Ryman Alley
The alleyway that connects two historic Nashville venues, the Ryman Auditorium and Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, became an important landmark in its own right. Many country greats have traveled between the two venues using this alleyway, and in the 1950s it actually became a venue of its own. According to legend, the teenage Everly Brothers would play here in the hopes of getting discovered. The duo caught the attention of prominent musicians such as Chet Atkins and went on to have a legendary career.
The Caverns
Although not technically located within Nashville, the Caverns is well worth the drive. It’s a unique music venue that’s just over an hour away in Grundy County. It’s an underground cave system that has been transformed into a country music venue. Not only will you be able to enjoy this adventurous and beautiful venue, but you can enjoy the unique prehistoric acoustics that the Caverns provide. If there are no shows that you want to see, you can still come and take a tour. If you’re looking for adventure, you can even take a thrilling tour of the larger cave system.
Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack
For a local favorite, head to Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack. This Nashville staple was first established in 1945 and has been serving spicy chicken ever since. You can order the chicken plain, or you can order in increasing levels of spice all the way up to XXX Hot! Sandwiches, wings, and tenders are available, along with a selection of sides and beer.
