Four Destinations for Your Next Road Trip

Four Destinations for Your Next Road Trip

Road trips are great for many reasons. They’re generally affordable, they’re flexible, and they’re great ways to see the country up close. You can take random excursions to your route, see the beautiful landscape of whatever region you’re in, and eat at unique local establishments – and that’s all before you’ve even arrived at your destination.

Here are some road trip ideas that you can take from some of the United States major cities:

From San Francisco: Napa Valley

Napa Valley is possibly the most famous wine region in the United States, and it’s a fantastic road trip destination in California. It is located just an hour north of the Bay Area, and the drive to get there is a relatively easy one. The short distance makes it a great option for a day trip, but there are fantastic hotels and resorts you can stay at if you’d like to make it a longer trip. There are many world-class wineries you can explore, and when you want to take a break from sampling wine, you can indulge in any of the other activities Napa has to offer. You can take a balloon ride, go for a hike, or play golf.

From Washington, D.C.: Annapolis, Maryland

Located less than an hour east of Washington, D.C. lies Annapolis, a delightful town on Maryland’s coast. There are also several bus routes that you can take if you don’t have a car, which makes Annapolis an easy place to get to. The city is full of interesting shops, beautiful colonial architecture, and all of the fresh seafood that you could want! The town itself is quite walkable, so once you get there and find a good parking spot, you won’t have to worry about your car until you’re ready to leave.

From New York City: Watch Hill, Rhode Island

If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, a road trip east to the coastal village of Watch Hill might be exactly what you need. The drive is just under three hours and takes you along the coastline. When you arrive in Watch Hill you can explore the picturesque seaside town and relax on its beautiful sandy beaches.

From Seattle: Snoqualmie Falls

Seattle is surrounded by incredible nature so you could drive in any direction and find something worth seeing. If you’re looking for a specific destination, try heading about 30 minutes east to Snoqualmie Falls. This majestic 268-foot waterfall is famous for not only its beauty and height but its appearance in the television show Twin Peaks. You can hike in the area and see the falls from various viewpoints. Perched at the top of the falls is the historic Salish Lodge, which is a great hotel with a spa and incredible restaurant that you can stay in for a rustic but luxurious retreat.
