You Need to Spend a Weekend at the Getaway Cabins

If you’ve seen cute images of minimalistic and cozy cabins with massive windows while scrolling through social media, you’ve likely already seen the beautiful interiors of the Getaway cabins and you might even be interested in visiting one!

What is Getaway?

If you’ve never heard of Getaway, the cabins, or the outposts, here’s a primer: Getaway is a company that was founded in 2015 that has set up outposts at certain locations throughout the United States that each contains multiple tiny home-style cabins that are spread out to give the guests some peace and quiet. Each outpost is associated with a major city but is located at least an hour away from that said. For example, the Washington, D.C. outpost is located about 2-3 hours away in the Shenandoah Valley.

What are the cabins like?

Each cabin includes a bed, a kitchenette, a bathroom that includes a shower, a small table, and an outdoor area that includes a fire pit, chairs, and a picnic table. The kitchenette has salt, pepper, cooking oil, and basic kitchen tools like knives, cutting boards, and pots and pans. There are also some essentials like firewood, firestarter, and coffee that are available for a small fee. You can also pay $30 for a box of food such as pasta, oatmeal, beef jerky, and more to be left in your cabin when you arrive, or you can bring your own food. Either way, Getaway has all of the essentials available so you don’t have to worry about the small things.

How does it work?

The day before your scheduled trip you’ll get a text or email letting you know which cabin you’ll be staying in. Each of the cabins is named after a grandparent of one of Getaway’s employees or guests, and you’ll get the cabin name and a map showing you where the cabin is located in the outpost.

On the day of your arrival, you’ll receive a four-digit code that you’ll be able to use to enter the cabin. One of the best things about Getaway is you won’t have to interact with anyone at all throughout the experience. When you locate your cabin, you’ll find a designated parking spot for you. Once you park and find your cabin, you’ll enter the code that was texted to you, and then it’s time to relax!

What’s so great about Getaway?

One of the best things about Getaway cabins is the large windows you’ll see when you first enter the cabin. They’re nearly the size of one wall of the cabin, and the bed is nestled right up against it. It provides a beautiful view, and the experience of waking up gradually as the sun rises is so much better than being jolted awake when your alarm goes off.

One of the best things about Getaway is how convenient they are. Those who live in cities may not have the opportunity to go camping, or the supplies needed to get out in nature and escape from busy city life. Getaway provides not only a safe and comfortable place to stay but all of the essentials you’ll need.
