A Beginners Guide to House Plants

Collecting and caring for house plants is as popular as it’s ever been. There are many people on Instagram creating a second account just to feature their plants, and you can even buy plants online and have them shipped to you.

There are also many benefits of collecting house plants. Firstly, they are a great way to freshen up your space and add some life to it. Plants also recycle air by absorbing toxins, and the added greenery in your space can also boost your mood. Additionally, house plants are a beautiful way to decorate which is beneficial not only for any guests you may have but also for you when you are trying to relax and unwind.

If you’re interested in adding some greenery to liven up your space but aren’t sure exactly where to start, here are some of the easiest house plants to take care of that you can start with.

Aloe

Aloe plants are succulents, which means that they are native to dry climates and retain a lot of water. These plants don’t need to be constantly watered, so if you’re afraid you might forget to consistently water your plants, aloe might be a great option for you. They do need to be left in bright but indirect sunlight so leave them by a window to give them the best chance to thrive. Additionally, there are some benefits to aloe – the sap inside the plant can be used as a moisturizer or healing ointment for minor cuts or sunburns.

Pothos

Pothos plants are some of the easiest plants to grow and they look impressive as well. They are nearly impossible to kill as they only require minimal care. They are trailing plants that can continually grow in the right conditions and can reach a length of ten feet. One of the benefits of pothos plants is how easily they adapt to different light levels as finding the right light balance for other plants can be quite tricky. For this plant, you just need to set up your pothos plant and let it dry out between waterings for it to thrive.

Snake Plants

Snake plants are also referred to as Mother-in-law’s Tongue. They not only survive with minimal care, but they require it. If you overwater them, they’ll rot, so you really only need to water them once a week or so. Snake plants also thrive in low light, so you don’t need to worry about giving them a prime spot next to a window.

Dumb Cane

Also known as Dieffenbachia, dumb cane plants are beautiful and look impressive, but they are not too difficult to care for. These house plants should not be left in direct sunlight, but any other light condition will be great for them.

Peace Lily

Peace lilies are beautiful green house plants, but they also are characterized by white lily flowers. They need heat and some humidity to thrive but don’t need these conditions in extreme quantities. When people have difficulties growing peace lilies, it’s often because they are overwatering them. You don’t need to water peace lilies on a strict schedule. Instead, check the soil periodically to see if it’s dry enough to water.
