Alternatives for a Diamond Engagement Ring

Alternatives for a Diamond Engagement Ring

Diamonds are beautiful, sparkly, and a classic stone for engagement rings – but they might not be right for you. If you’re ring shopping, first off – congratulations! It’s an exciting step! Secondly, you might be stressing about exactly what ring to get. There are so many different styles and price points. While we can’t make the final decision for you, we can share some suggestions for engagement rings for those who are looking for an alternative to diamonds.

Moissanite

Moissanite is the perfect alternative for those who might like the look of diamonds but are opposed to the actual stone for any reason. When moissanite was first discovered in 1893, they were actually thought to be diamonds. Scientist Henri Moissan determined that they were in fact a separate new stone and they’re actually the second hardest mineral in the world after diamonds. Moissanite rings are significantly cheaper than diamond rings but have just as much sparkle and elegance.

Sapphire

While sapphires are typically thought of as a blue jewel, there are actually several hues that you can select from if you’re opting for a sapphire ring. White sapphires also exist and like moissanite, they can look a lot like diamonds. They’re elegant and stylish and fit for royalty – literally. One of the most famous engagement rings of all time is probably the one Princess Diana of Wales wore when she was getting married to Prince Charles. While that marriage may not have been the happiest for both involved, the engagement ring remains iconic to this day.

Emerald

Emeralds have been a popular choice for jewelry throughout history and have often been associated with royalty. They’re also one of the rarest of the stones typically used for jewelry and are often said to be about 20 times rarer than diamonds so while they might be a great visual alternative, emerald rings aren’t often a cost-effective option. The rich tones of emerald will go well with gold or silver. The gem is also said to ward off evils in some cultures!

Amethyst

For a beautiful purple gem, consider an amethyst engagement ring. There are so many different shades of purple that amethyst will take on and they can be paired with a ring made from gold, rose gold, or silver material. Amethysts also are said to bring tranquility and calmness, which is perfect for a symbol of stability like an engagement ring.

Morganite

Morganite typically comes in blush or peach tones, making it a beautiful and delicate choice for an engagement ring. While you can pair morganite with gold or silver, the pink hues of the stone are drawn out in an especially magical way when paired with rose gold!
