What to Wear to A Summer Wedding

What to Wear to A Summer Wedding

Summer is a popular time for weddings, and since the weather is generally warm and sunny, it’s a popular time for outdoor weddings as well. Beautiful florals and colorful decorations make for a beautiful celebration of love, and if you’re invited to a summer wedding you have plenty of options about what to wear. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you decide what to wear to summer weddings of all kinds.

There’s Probably a Dress Code

Most wedding invitations will specify whether the bride and groom expect you to dress formally, semi-formally, or casually. Formal wedding guest outfits will typically include longer dresses in more subdued and elegant colors and you’ll likely plan on avoiding bright patterns. Semi-formal could include maxi dresses or midi dresses in more flowy fabrics and patterns – try florals fabrics for a classic look! You can still opt for a dress if the code is casual, but you have more options about length and sleeve style as well. Some brides and grooms will create a specific dress code for their wedding and you might be asked to wear white, which would typically be impolite to do.

Location, Location, Location

Not only is knowing the wedding location important so you know where to go, but it’s also important when deciding what to wear! If the wedding is outdoors in a place that may be muddy, you don’t want to wear your nicest pumps. Instead, a solid pair of flats would be better.

As a side note, when it comes to shoes, it’s important to be realistic and wear shoes that you personally find comfortable. You don’t have to wear heels just because they’re typically seen as fancy shoes for women. You’ll be walking around and dancing so you want to wear shoes you can move in.

Pick Fabric That Makes Sense

If you’re attending a wedding in a hot and humid climate, you’ll need to be smart about the fabric you wear. Cotton, linen, and silk are all good options as they’re lightweight and allow for airflow whereas polyester and rayon are not great options if you want to avoid sweat. Some climates are hot during the day and cold in the evening, so make sure you bring a light jacket if it makes sense.

Long Floral or Neutral Dresses Are Almost Always a Safe Bet

If you’re completely unsure what to wear and are stressing about your outfit, don’t worry – a floral dress is almost always a safe bet for a casual or semi-formal wedding. A floor-length neutral-colored gown in some kind of silk or shimmery fabric is almost always perfect for a formal event!
